Alan Watts says it beautifully,
“If you say that getting the money is the most important thing, you’ll spend your life wasting your time. So I always ask the question, what would you like to do if money were no object. You do that, and forget the money. And after all, if you do really like what you’re doing, it doesn’t matter what it is, you can eventually become a master of it, and then you’ll be able to get a good fee for whatever it is.
Therefore it’s so important to consider this question… What do I desire?”
So many of us go on day after day, doing things we don’t like doing, just for the pay cheque at the end of the month.
Of course, we have to! How else are we going to pay the bills?
But we do have a choice.
We have a choice to analyze and become aware of our situation.
We have a choice to take a action in our situation.
I’m not saying if you’re unhappy in your job you should make a choice to quit immediately. But you can make a choice to start making plans to leave eventually. That’s making a choice.
You can make a choice to start exploring what you’d do if money were no object. You can start educating yourself on that subject and slowly move in the direction of making it your side project.
Make an effort to do just one small thing everyday towards creating your dream job.
Many highly successful entrepreneurs started out with a small side project while they were working their full time jobs.
So as Alan Watts asks… What do YOU desire?
And so I ask… What are YOU going to do about it?
Wow! That really struck home. It’s kinda been my philosophy, but I never actually followed my heart and applied it. In any case, I totally agree with the article’s stance and will start taking action immediately. A real eye-opener.
Awesome Ted, so glad you could relate to it.
I so agree with this Shannon. I worked for years in jobs that I did not resonate with just for the paycheck and then was so burned out I had to leave. I love what I do now, I am my own boss and I set my own schedule. Love my life and help others to do the same. Great article!
Thanks Diane, glad to hear that you have found your happy place and are helping others to do the same!
Yes, action is everything! We have choice. Wooo-Hoooo!
Totally!
Love your advice. I happen to love my job, but that was not always the case. Sometimes you have to find what you love outside of your job, right? Work to live, not live to work.
True Kimba. And when you love what you do it doesn’t really feel like work anyway!
LOVE LOVE LOVE that video! Thanks for sharing!
If you love that video just search ‘Alan Watts videos’ on google and you’ll be busy for hours!
This is the second time I have been to your site this week and watched the video above. I loved it so much but first time that a second round felt just as good.
That’s so cool Kate, glad everyone is digging the video so much!
Yes, It’s all about making the right choices and working towards a bright future and of course we make mistakes but the key is to learn from them and keep going. I find that as I get older, I know myself and trust myself more so less miatakes and more actions towards what I truly love to do. Great share…awesome video!
Thanks Nathalie, and thanks for your platform, I’m really enjoying it! X
